Despite Real Madrid dominating the ball in the opening stages of their Champions League clash with CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night it was the visitors who seized the initiative with two goals in six minutes just before the break.

Whilst it was a much-changed Real Madrid side, the likes of Isco, Marco Asensio, Marcelo and Karim Benzema were all awarded starts for what was a meaningless game for the Spaniards.

Whilst Madrid had nothing to play for, CSKA did, with the Russians needing to better Viktoria Plzen's result against Roma in order to secure a Europa League place.

Marco Asensio almost opened the scoring as he rattled the woodwork, but it was Fedor Chalov who eventually broke the deadlock for the away side against the run of play.

The striker was fed by Arnor Sigurdsson on the edge of the box and used the overlapping run to his right as a decoy to create the space to shift the ball onto his left foot and find the far corner.
