Real Madrid's disappointing start to the season has led to them sounding out former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, according to reports in his native Italy.

The Spanish giants have struggled early on in the campaign, with Julen Lopetegui's goal-shy side currently on their worst run in front of goal since 1985.

That has led to questions being asked about whether Lopetegui's style of coaching may be more suited to international level and whether he has the personality to dominate the big personalities in the Real Madrid dressing room.

Keen to remain on top of the situation, Madrid have already lined up several potential alterntives should they opt to pull the trigger, with the Italian among the possible replacements.

Indeed, the aforementioned source claims that contact has already been made between the club and former Juventus and Chelsea boss Conte.

It is claimed that Conte spoke to senior Madrid officials on the phone, with some prominent members of the Spanish side's board having reportedly already lost faith in the former Spain boss.

Should Lopetegui be pushed, Conte is believed to have provisionally agreed to take over and would be willing to travel to the Spanish capital immediately to officially tie up a move.

Real Madrid's next few games may have just seen their importance increase significantly.
