Liverpool right-back Nathaniel Clyne could face up to three months on the sidelines after undergoing back surgery, according to 'Sky Sports'.

The 26-year-old has not played since suffering the injury in a pre-season match against Tranmere and he could not be out of action until February.

He resumed light training in September, but the England international has since suffered a setback and recently underwent 'minor corrective surgery' to resolve the problem.

Speaking on November 3, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said: "He was in a good way and then had a little setback. That's how back problems are.

"We showed him to specialists all over the world and it is not a big problem, it just needs time, that is all."

In Clyne's absence, Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold have filled in at right-back, while Kieran Trippier has been given the nod by Gareth Southgate in the England set-up.
