Christian Maldini becomes third generation to captain AC Milan

Christian Maldini followed in the footsteps of his father Paolo and grandfather Cesare to become the third generation of the family to captain AC Milan.

The 19-year-old, who belongs to the famous Italian footballing family, was handed the armband for the Italian giant's Under 19 side in a friendly against Novara on Saturday.

The youngster was presented with the honour of captaining Milan's youth side in honour of the passing of his grandfather, and club legend, Cesare Maldini.

His father, Paolo, enjoyed a successful career and became one of the most highly-rated defenders in world football during a 25-year stint at the the club, in which he won five European Cups and seven Serie A titles.

Christian's grandfather, Cesare, played for Milan between 1954 and 1966 and won four Serie A titles including the European Cup in 1963.
