Chelsea will be looking to cause an upset against Barcelona to improve their good record against the Catalan club and get off to a good start in the first leg of the Champions League last-16 tie.

The Blues are unbeaten in their last seven Champions League games against Barcelona, having also beat them in the semi-finals in 2012 on their way to winning the trophy. This season, however, Antonio Conte's side have won just four of their previous 12 matches in all competitions while La Liga leaders Barca have only lost once all season.

As they search for a result to provide the springboard Chelsea need to end the season on a high, Conte admitted he has been kept awake planning how to beat the free-flowing La Liga leaders:"In these days after the game in the FA Cup, I must be honest... it was a bit difficult to sleep well," he said. "When you have to play this type of game, you have to prepare. You have to prepare everything. You have to prepare big things, but the smaller details too.

"They can move a result a lot of the time. We have an idea. We have a plan in our heads. I think that, in this specific moment, it's very important to pick the players who are at the top of their form and then try and do our best to win the game."

Barcelona's fierce rivals Real Madrid may have dominated the Champions League in recent times, but Ernesto Valverde's side look unbeatable this term and can also count on the magic of Lionel Messi who, rather surprisingly, has never managed to score against Chelsea. Eden Hazard has bagged three goals and two assists in his last five Champions League games, and could see the tie as an opportunity to impress.

Ernesto Valverde believes the clash provides Messi with the chance to end his drought, while also pointing to the influence of previous meetings: "The main players change during the game. Messi, [Andres] Iniesta might still be there, but I think it's good that there's been a little rivalry, it gives us a little bit more expectation."

"This tie is important for Leo, for me, for everyone. For Barcelona. It'll be tough, but it's important because we want to qualify," he said. "Leo perhaps hasn't had much luck against Chelsea before, but Tuesday is a different game."

David Luiz and Tiemoue Bakayoko are injury doubts for Chelsea but Marcos Alonso is set to return. Nelson Semedo is suspended for Barcelona while Philippe Coutinho is cup-tied, having played for Liverpool earlier in the season.

Potential lineups:

Chelsea: Courtois; Rudiger, Christensen, Azpilicueta; Moses, Fabregas, Kante, Alonso; Pedro, Morata, Hazard.

Barcelona: Ter Stegen; Sergi Roberto, Pique, Umtiti, Alba; Paulinho, Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta; Suarez, Messi.
