Chelsea target attacking trio

Reports in England claim that Chelsea have whittled their shortlist down to three strikers as they look to fill the void left in their squad by Diego Costa's move to Atletico Madrid.

The sale of Costa coupled with Michy Batshuayi's 'performance' against Crystal Palace on Saturday have only served to reinforce an attacking lack of depth up front for the Premier League Champions.

Alvaro Morata has impressed since his move from Real Madrid earlier this summer but in his absence, the 'Blues' have looked thin in attack, hence the search for January reinforcements.

English publication 'The Sun' reports that Chelsea will pursue three deals at the same time in January and will press on with whichever seems most likely to get over the line.

Their first target is England international Jamie Vardy, who looks to be returning to something like his best form. Second on the list is Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke, who is currently sidelined through injury.

The Belgian was considered an expensive flop at Liverpool but has impressed at both Aston Villa and Crystal Palace and is thought to be among the best options available that would be happy with playing second fiddle to Morata.

Finally, and a more rogue option for Antonio conte's side is Red Star Belgrade striker Richmond Boakye, who Chelsea have been scouting of late.

The Ghanian is thought to be a similar style of player to Bathsuayi and would likely be the easiest player of the three to sign.

Despite it still being October, January is already shaping up to be a busy month for the champions.
