The Blues were held to a 0-0 stalemate at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and Luiz was given his marching orders close to the end. But the defender played almost an entire half with a broken wrist.

David Luiz is suspended for Chelsea's next three domestic games following his horror 87th minute challenge on Sead Kolasinac.

But 40 minutes before being sent off, the Brazilian suffered a freak injury falling into the advertising hoardings at Stamford Bridge. It happened just before half time, but he continued to play despite his damaged wrist. He is now wearing a cast after x-rays revealed it was broken.

Luiz is set to miss out on Chelsea's trip to Stoke and their home clash against rivals Manchester City, as he is ruled out of Premier League action until Chelsea play Crystal Palace on October 14.

The centre-back returned to light training exercises at Chelsea's Cobham base and is determined to play in the Blues' Champions League trip to Atletico Madrid next week.
