The United defender unleashes a rocket from distance but Courtois leaps to parry the Argentinian's attempt away.

Chalobah brings De Gea into action

The Chelsea youngster hits a low shot from long range but it would take something special to beat De Gea from there and the Spaniard comfortably saves.

Ibrahimovic almost gets one back

Mata clips in a good ball to the Swede who brings it down well and aims for the bottom corner. Courtois gets down and turns it behind. Easily United's best chance of the half.

Double substitution for Chelsea

Eden Hazard and Diego Costa leave the field and are replaced by Willian and Michy Batshuayi.

Yellow card for Pogba

It's been a bad afternoon for the world's most expensive player, who's now gone into the referee's book.

Pogba loses the ball, Costa can't punish him

Pogba's loose pass in the middle of the park and goes straight to Diego Costa. The Chelsea man comes forward but can only manage a weak left-footed attempt which is easily saved by De Gea.

Pedro off, Chalobah on

The excellent Pedro's work is done for the afternoon as he is replaced by Nathaniel Chalobah.

Kante gets his first goal for Chelsea

The former Leicester midfielder receives the ball from Pedro, weaves between Pogba and Smalling and cooly finishes past De Gea. Really poor defending from United.

Manchester United make their final change of the game as Lingard is replaced by Anthony Martial.

Yellow card for Alonso

The Spanish defender hauls Pogba down and goes in the referee's book.

Hazard makes it 3-0

Jose Mourinho will not be enjoying his return to Stamford Bridge. Hazard has the ball on the left side of the area, comes inside on his right foot and fires in the bottom left corner.

Courtois saves from distance

Jesse Lingard comes forward and shoots from distance but Courtois does well to get down to his left and parry the Englishman's shot away.

Important block from Smalling

Eden Hazard is played in down the left and shoots for the far bottom corner, but Smalling manages to get a block in.

Bailly off, Rojo on

It's more bad news for Manchester United as Eric Bailly limps off with what looks like a knee injury. He's replaced by Marcos Rojo.

Chelsea have the ball in the net, but Costa's offside

Kante's wayward shot finds the former Atletico Madrid striker who curls the ball into the top corner, but the Spain international is a long way offside.

Second half underway

Zlatan Ibrahimovic gets the second half underway for Manchester United.

Fellaini off, Mata on

Jose Mourinho has made an attacking substitution at half-time, taking off defensive midfielder Fellaini for Juan Mata

HALF-TIME: Chelsea 2-0 Manchester United

The Blues lead comfortably at half-time and Mourinho will be having some harsh words with his players. Chelsea lead through Pedro's effort after just 30 seconds and Gary Cahill's deflected half-volley.

Bailly makes crucial block

On the stroke of half-time, Chelsea come close to scoring a third. The ball falls to Pedro in the box whose shot is blocked by Bailly.

Yellow card for Luiz

David Luiz goes in the book for catching Fellaini on the knee with his studs - he's lucky to get away with a yellow. Meanwhile, Pedro received a yellow card for taking off his shirt while celebrating his early goal.

The former Villarreal defender brings down Diego Costa who goes on a driving run.

Courtois makes double save

Manchester United have their best chances of the game as Ander Herrera shoots from distance which is beaten away by the Chelsea 'keeper. The follow-up from Lingard is turned behind for a corner.

Chelsea press for a third

Manchester United are all at sea at the back and Chelsea are pushing to make it 3-0. Pedro steals the ball from a dallying Blind and crosses for Costa, but De Gea turns it away.

Cahill makes it 2-0

A corner comes in from the right and the ball bounces in the box, it falls to Cahill whose half-volley deflects off Blind and flies past De Gea who can do nothing to stop it.

Hazard fires wide

Victor Moses and Pedro work a clever short corner to Hazard on the edge of the box but the Belgian can only strike his low half-volley just wide.

Ibrahimovic heads just over

Antonio Valencia gets to the byline stands up a lovely ball to Ibrahimovic who can only head just over the bar from six yards.

Pedro scores after 30 seconds

Manchester United's defence is carved open less than half a minute into the game. Alonso plays a wonderful diagonal ball to Pedro on the right wing who bears down on goal and rounds De Gea and slots home. What a start!

Pogba plays as a No.10, Chelsea keep three at the back

Jose Mourinho appears to have given Pogba a more free role just behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic, with Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera behind him.

Antonio Conte has opted to maintain the 3-4-3 formation that has served the Blues well in recent weeks. John Terry returns to the bench and may play for the first time since picking up an ankle injury against Swansea.
