We take a look at how the Chelsea and Barcelona players fared in Tuesday night's Champions League last-16 clash between the two sides.

CHELSEA:

Goalkeeper: Thibaut Courtois - 6

Made one good low save from Luis Suarez in the second half but otherwise untroubled. Dominant on crosses.

Defender: Cesar Azpilicueta - 7

Marshalled the backline well as captain with a composed display.

Defender: Andreas Christensen - 6

Generally solid but it was the Dane's error which led to Barcelona's equaliser.

Defender: Antonio Rudiger - 7

A bundle of physicality and composure, quickly making the spot on the left-hand side of Chelsea's back three his own.

Wing-back: Victor Moses - 7

Picked his moments to go forward and generally kept Jordi Alba quiet down that flank, no mean feat.

Midfielder: Cesc Fabregas - 6

The Spanish international struggled to put his stamp on the game as Chelsea ceded possession for long spells.

Midfielder: N'Golo Kante - 7

You know what you get with N'Golo Kante, 100% work rate. The Frenchman covered every blade of grass on Tuesday, hustling and harrying Barca's four-man midfield and generally not giving anyone a minute's rest.

Wing-back: Marcos Alonso - 6

Forced to sit deeper than he would have like due to Sergi Roberto's raids. A solid performance. Went close with a first-half free-kick.

Forward: Willian - 9

An outstanding display, the Brazilian looked a threat ever time he got the ball, rattling the post twice before finding the net in the second half. Barca had no answer to his positive running.

Forward: Eden Hazard - 8

Playing in an unfamiliar position but a good performance from the Belgian, who was happy to try to hold the ball up despite being faced with the hulking frame of Samuel Umtiti.

Forward: Pedro - 6

The quietest of Chelsea's attacking players but the Spaniard worked hard against his former side.

BARCELONA:

Goalkeeper: Marc-Andre Ter Stegen - 5

The German had very little to do and despite Chelsea only scoring once, Willian's two efforts that hit the woodwork also seemed to have him beaten.

Right-back: Sergi Roberto - 7

A n example of how well the midfielder has adapted to playing right-back, he forcedMarcos Alonso back for long spells and barely misplaced a pass.

Centre-back: Gerard Pique - 7

Cruised through the game for long spells and dominated in the air against Chelsea's makeshift forward line.

Centre-back: Samuel Umtiti - 6

Wasn't particularly busy but looked unsettled when the likes of Hazard and Willian were on the ball in his vicinity.

Left-back: Jordi Alba - 7

Always an outlet down the left though he would no doubt have liked to have added some end product to some of his crossing.

Midfielder: Sergio Busquets - 8

Without a doubt one of the best 'controlling midfielders' in Europe. The Spaniard's passing was immaculate.

Midfielder: Andres Iniesta - 7

Despite question marks about his ability to last 90 minutes these days he showed that there is still life in the old dog yet by snatching upon Christensen's misplaced pass to assists Messi's equaliser.

Midfielder: Ivan Rakitic - 6

Not the Croatian's best performance but tidy in parts.

Midfielder: Paulinho - 5

A disappointing day for the Brazilian. He was presented with a glorious chance to open the scoring early on but somehow contrived to head wide from Messi's centre. Struggled to provide the attacking thrust he was picked to inject into Barca's play.

Forward: Lionel Messi - 8

Showed some silky skills at times, notably to skip away from Rudiger and finally broke his duck against Chelsea to give Barca a precious away goal ahead of the second leg.

Forward: Luis Suarez - 7

Not how he would have wanted his return to England to go but the Uruguayan led the line gamely. Was always on the move and forced a good save from Courtois in the second half.
