Moussa Dembele joined Lyon from Celtic for £19.7m late on deadline day, and the Frenchman has revealed that Celtic "gave in" to sanction the transfer.

Dembele joined Lyon on a five-year deal, with Brendan Rodgers describing the transfer as serving "the best interests" of "the culture and environment" at Celtic.

Speaking at his unveiling, the striker said: "I was determined to come to Lyon.

"Those in charge gave in. It was hard. I gave everything and in the end, it paid off.

"I have played with a lot of Lyonnais players. They all told me to come. I'm a scorer, it's my first quality.

Lyon's club president Jean-Michel Aulas said Dembele's determination to move to Lyon was what made the deal happen.

"The club has a financial strength that is recognized throughout Europe. Sometimes you have to use it."
