Brendan Rodgers looks to be closing in on the signing of Chelsea's 20-year-old midfielder Charly Musonda.

The Celtic manager recently revealed that he was prepared to pay big-money to bring in a player of "substantial pedigree and quality" as the Parkhead club target Champions League qualification and according to reports in 'The Daily Mail', Musonda is that player.

Rodgers revealed that the player in question "is of substatial pedigree and quality" he noted that "he is young" but stressed that "he has experience" and revealed that Celtic had been working on the deal for six months now.

Rodgers was asked if the player was Musonda but replied very diplomatically, saying simply "he's a very good player."

Celtic are believed to prepared to spend "big money" this summer but only on the right player and it appears that Musonda fits the bill for them.

Celtic's record transfer is £6m but from the noises being made by the club it appears that they may be about to break that this summer.

The Belgian U21 international is yet to play for Chelsea but spent the 2015/16 season out on loan at La Liga side Real Betis, making 24 appearances in La Liga, scoring once.
