Porto goalkeeper Iker Casillas took to social media on Wednesday to thank Liverpool fans after they gave the veteran stopper a rousing ovation during what could prove to be his final Champions League appearance on Tuesday night.

The 36-year-old made a fine save to deny Danny Ings a headed goal late on and preserve his clean sheet as the Portuguese side claimed a goalless draw on the night, and it could be the legend's final UCL game of an incredible career.

Casillas made his 171st Champions League appearance against the 'Reds', but with Porto set to release him on a free on the end of the season when his contract expires, it could be the end of an era for the former Real Madrid man.

Following the game, Casillas posted a photo of himself and Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp after the full-time whistle on Instagram with the caption "Respect Champions League, Never walk alone."

Finally, speaking to Spanish media after the game, Casilla explained that if the game were to be his last in Europe's premier club competition, it wasn't a bad one to end on.

"If this was my Champions League farewell, it hasn't been a bad night at all – at this fantastic stadium, keeping a clean sheet... but no one knows what the future holds," he explained.

"My objective is to win the league with Porto because this group of players deserves to lift the trophy. We'll see what happens at the end of the season.

"If I look back, I can feel proud of the things I've won in the game, of everything I have achieved. I would like to say thank you to the fans. It's been many years in the Champions League and it's great to come to a stadium like this and be given such a warm reception."
