Reports in England claim that two Premier League sides are considering handing legendary Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas a chance to end his career in England's top flight.

English publication 'The Sun' reports that Liverpool and Newcastle are considering making a move for the former Real Madrid man, who is out of favour at current club FC Porto.

The 36-year-old has been dropped form the starting line-up in recent weeks, with Portugal U23 international Jose Sa preferred between the sticks by manager Sergio Conceicao.

It is thought that the veteran was disappointed with the manner in which he was dropped from the starting line-up for last week's Champions League game against RB Leipzig and is now considering his future at the club.

Rumours originally claimed that Casillas was being punished for using his phone during a training session but Conceicao has poured cold water on those reports, insisting that it was a tactical decision to leave the player out.

Casillas' discontent has led to interest from both Liverpool and Newcastle, with the former keen on bringing in a strong, confident stopper with both Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet largely failing to impress.

The link with Newcastle is more surprising given Rob Elliot's early-season form but with compatriot Rafa Benitez at the helm Casillas could be tempted by a switch to the Toon.

Casillas has just eight months remaining on his contract in Portugal and he is thought to be Porto's highest earner on around £450,000 per year.
