Carvalhal: We have put out the fire for now

In his typical poetic style, Swansea manager Carlos Carvalhal has likened to his side's revival since his arrival to putting out a forest fire, saying the fire can return if his team are not careful.

Swansea were bottom of the table when Carvalhal arrived, but he has done a remarkable job since taking over the club, and they now sit 13th, three points above the relegation zone.

Since his arrival, the 'Swans' have had a total turnaround in form, winning eight out of fifteen games in all competitions, and losing just two.

That being said, the fight to avoid relegation is extremely tight, and it could take just a few bad results to send the Welsh side back down into the danger zone.

Speaking ahead of his team's trip to Huddersfield, Carvalhal used one of his trademark metaphors to explain Swansea's situation. "When you come to a club, you have an emergency plan," he began. "Everything is burning and the first thing we must do is try to put water in the burn."

"When you are doing this, you don't have time to do different things, to rebuild things. You are focused on making the burn disappear. At the moment it is a lot better, we have used a lot of water!"

"It is like a burn in the forest and sometimes the burn can appear again, if you don't care about the opposition and the forest. We are in that position. The fire is not there but the fire can come again."

Carvalhal also touched on some player issues, explaining that Renato Sanches has returned to Portugal to continue his recovery from a muscle problem, and saying that Sung-Yeung Ki's contract issues are not his concern at the present moment. Ki has been in good form lately, but is out of contract in the summer.

"This is not a subject for this moment," he stated. "My focus is just on the games and trying to stay in the Premier League."
