Sergio Busquets' sublimely accurate passing ability has never been in doubt but he took it to new heights in Barcelona's Champions League first-leg clash with Chelsea on Tuesday night.

All the plaudits may have gone to his teammate Lionel Messi, who scored his first goal against the Premier League champions to secure an important away goal going into the return fixture in March.

However, Busquets was again a solid presence in midfield, finding player after player with his passes to mitigate Chelsea's tactics of stifling the midfield.

In fact, he completed an impressive 128 passes of the 139 he attempted to earn a 92 per cent pass accurancy and set a new Barcelona record for the season

His passing performance against Chelsea smashed the previous number of 111 successful balls played by Paulinho in another Champions League fixture, this one against Olympiakos in the group stages.

Head coach Ernesto Valverde will be hoping his midfielder can put in a similar performance at the Camp Nou, with both sides still in with a fighting chance to progress given the 1-1 scoreline
