UEFA have suspended Marseille's Patrice Evra for at least one match after he aimed a kick at a supporter before the game against Vitoria.

Partrice Evra has been given an initial one-match ban and the Marseille defender will face a UEFA hearing after his altercation with a fan before Thursday's Europa League match with Vitoria Guimaraes.

The former Manchester United left-back was sent off following a heated exchange with a group of visiting supporters on the touchline before kick-off,  with the UEFA's disciplinary body set to discuss his case at its next meeting on November 10.

Marseille released a statement saying the incident will be investigated: "Olympique de Marseille has noted the altercation between an individual and Patrice Evra during the warm-up at the game against Guimaraes (on Thursday)."

"An internal investigation has been opened to establish responsibilities. No matter what happens, a professional player must maintain self-control despite provocations and insults, no matter how unjustified they may be."
