The French prime minister, Edouard Philippe has confirmed the cancellation of the 2019-20 Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 seasons.

Bombshell in French football. 'RMC' Sport announced on Tuesday that the government will cancel Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 and football in 2019-20 won't return in France with the exception of European competitions.

The prime minister, Edouard Philippe, announced the conclusion of the campaign, while the LFP will decide in a meeting the season's final table and the promotions and relegations.

In principle, football in France won't return until August, although the government spoke about there being no sporting events of more than 5000 people until September. The measure is intended to ensure that there is no rush and that the health of the players is taken into account.

In that case, clubs could now start to prepare for the 2020-21 season, although we will have to wait to see what happens with those sides still in Europe, as is the case with PSG and Lyon in the Champions League.
