Five-time World Cup winners Brazil have returned to the top of the FIFA world rankings.

That's despite being beaten by arch rivals Argentina in a friendly last time out.

The rankings are based on results over a four-year period and it appears that Brazil's World Cup qualifying victories over Uruguay and Paraguay in March were enough for them to return to the summit, overtaking previous No 1 ranked side Germany.

Brazil were the first team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, though it is now 16 years since the football mad nation last lifted the Jules Rimet trophy, when Brazilian Ronaldo inspired the Samba stars to a 2-0 victory over Germany in 2002.

England's ranking remains unchanged, with Gareth Southgate's side coming in in 17th place, just ahead of Wales in 18th. Fellow Brits Northern Ireland and Scotland came in in 23rd and 58th position respectively.
