Premier League rivals Bournemouth and Leicester are fighting it out to sign Brentford defender Chris Mepham, according to the 'Daily Mail'.

The 'Cherries' have been linked with the 20-year-old all summer and have reportedly seen a £12m bid knocked back by the 'Bees', who are renowned for asking for top dollar for their stars.

According to the aforementioned source, Leicester have seen a £10m bid turned down and are now weighing up another offer as they look for someone to provide foil for Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans and Wes Morgan.

Mepham broke into the Brentford first team last season and impressed enugh to force his way into the Wales reckoning, with the young defender making two appearances for his country to date.

The former Chelsea academy talent is highly rated among footballing circles, with Brentford hoping to start a bidding war for his services in order to best profit.

Mepham started for Brentford in their thumping 5-1 victory over rotherham on Saturday, suggesting no deal is imminent.
