Karim Benzema played his 400th game for Real Madrid against Las Palmas on Saturday and was gifted a landmark goal as Jonathan Calleri clumsily brought down Lucas Vazquez to hand Real Madrid a penalty.

The Frenchman made no mistake form the spot, rolling the ball beyond Chichizola and into the bottom corner to double Real's lead and mark the occasion with a goal.

It proved to be a good day for Benzema, not only did he get his goal and play his 400th game for the club but he was also handed the captain's armband by Zinedine Zidane, with the likes of Sergio Ramos, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo rested.

The Frenchman's last goal in La Liga also came from the spot, against Alaves but the former Lyon man didn't need Ronaldo to gift him spot-kick duties on this occasion, with the Portuguese left back in Madrid.

A morale-boosting goal for Benzema, with a trip to Turin in the Champions League rapidly appraoching.
