Reports claim that Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema will sign a new contract with the Spanish giants this week.

Spanish pubication 'AS' reports that the Frenchman will sign a contract extension tying him to the club on Thursday September 21.

Having already made moves to tie down Marcelo, Isco and Dani Carvajal, the next player on Real's contract hitlist is that of the former Lyon man.

Despite an indifferent start to the season, 'Los Blancos' boss Zinedine Zidane is a big fan of his fellow countryman, with the aformentioned source stating that the player's current contract, which runs until 2019, will be extended for two further years, thus tying him to Real until 2019.

Benzema will be paid in the region of €7.5m per year (€144,000 per week) and his release clause of €1,000,000,000 (£890m) will remain in tact.

The 29-year-old, who joined the club in 2009, is thought to be keen on ending his career at the Bernabeu and with his new contract set to take him through to the age of 33, he may get his wish.
