In the second half of the Champions League quarter-final first leg between Benfica and Liverpool, the Portuguese side wanted a penalty from VVD on Darwin Nunez. The defender put his arm on the striker's chest in the area and he went down in the box, but the referee did not give a penalty.

In the Champions League quarter-final, a game which saw Liverpool won 1-3 at Benfica, there was an incident which could have changed the whole game. Well into the second half, Van Dijk touched Darwin Nunez in the box and the Uruguayan went down on the floor. However, the referee said no foul, much to the annoyance of the Portuguese side.

The fans understood that the referee should have at least gone to the VAR screen to see what had happened. The former Almeria man, who received the possible foul, complained about the tackle, but the referee Gil Manzano and VAR Hernandez Hernandez was not interested.

Luis Diaz ended up scoring the third and that Benfica in trouble ahead of the second leg at Anfield next Wednesday.

Regardless of that decision, Benfica have to fight back at Anfield by scoring at least two goals to get into the semi-finals of the Champions League. The Reds, in general, dominated in Portugal and they are expected to be dominant in the second leg as well.
