Sevilla striker Wissam Ben Yedder was sent off for on Saturday after being issued with two yellow cards in as many minutes in the draw with Villarreal.
The incident happened after Villarreal's Denis Cehryshev chopped down Ever Banega in the middle of the park.
Ben Yedder protested that the Russian deserved a second yellow for persistent fouling, but was instead shown a card himself for his protests.
Dumfounded by that decision, Ben Yedder sarcastically applauded the referee, which led to him producing another card and sending the French striker for an early bath.
