FC Bayern Munich's Sporting Advisory Board's President Oliver Kahn explained why Julian Nagelsmann was sacked as first-team manager, citing the ups-and-downs that the team has gone through. The ex-goalkeeper said that the fact that they couldn't find their best form often enough was reason to relieve him of his duties.

Bayern Munich are starting a new era. The club chose to sack Julian Nagelsmann and get Thomas Tuchel in his place until 2025.

Oliver Kahn explained the decision in the press room before the new manager was presented: "We had the responsibility to prioritise success on the field and we had to ask ourselves why the team had been going through such up-and-down form in their performance".

Kahn said that it wasn't an emotional decision after losing last Sunday against Bayer Leverkusen, but came after analysing what had happened in the last few months.

"If it had been a knee-jerk reaction, we'd have made the choice on that very Monday. But we did it after analysing and thinking about it. We've strengthened the squad, we've got one of the best sides in Europe. But the consistency in performances is not there", he said.

"We started the year with three draws, we've recently lost three and won five. That doesn't fit with our ambition. We're hoping to get consistency. We've seen games like the one against PSG, which means the side is capable of it", he added.
