Barcelona's transfer activity this summer has been limited, as it seems every time they set their sights on a player, the target slips away in the end.

The board of directors at Barcelona have an arduous task ahead of them. Following Neymar's exit, a star signing to lead the attack is a priority, but further reinforcements are required.

The 5-1 Super Cup defeat at the hands of Real Madrid was a wake up call for the Catalans to strengthen the back line. Valverde has been following many candidates in defence, but it seems the favoured option will not join the La Liga outfit.

The player in question is Davinson Sanchez, the Colombian centre-back who currently plays for Ajax. As reported by The Independent, he wants to leave Amsterdam, but not to join Barcelona.

The 21-year-old is keen on a move to the Premier League, more specifically Tottenham Hotspur, therefore turning down a move to Spanish football.

Sanchez has reportedly told Ajax that he wants to be allowed to leave the club and join Spurs before the transfer window closes, favouring the opportunity to continue progression under Pochettino as opposed to a move to Barcelona, where he could lack first-team football.

The defender, who enjoyed a stellar introductory campaign to European football by reaching the Europa League final with Ajax, is the latest player to turn down Barcelona's advances as desperation begins to mount at the Camp Nou.
