'BT Sport' pundit and England legend Michael Owen was scathing about Luiz Suarez and Lionel Messi's performances against Roma in the Champions League.

Barcelona were the victims of one of the competitions greatest comebacks in Rome on Tuesday night and were rumbled by the Italians

Suarez and Messi, who both played the full 90 minutes, had disappointing games to say the least. The two strikers combined had 94 touches of the ball, the majority of them coming in the opposition half.

Michael Owen criticised the two Barca men for their lack of contribution to the defence: "It is incredible. When we look at the stats and everything that it tells us it is incredible, but your eyes don't lie."

'We looked at the game in the first leg… We've watched Barcelona for a number of months now and I'm not sure — even though they haven't conceded many — I'm not sure you can not concede when you've got two strikers that don't put anything into defending," the Englishman continued.

"They are basically defending with eight outfield players against eleven and I'm not sure you can do that at the highest level," Owen added.

It's not often Messi sees himself criticised, but he'll have to hold his hands up and say his team were outdone by a Roma side with more desire.
