A brace from Alejandro Marques Mendez and a late strike by Abel Ruiz was enough to see off Chelsea to win the UEFA Youth League.

It was England versus Spain in the youth competition on Monday afternoon when Barca who took control of the first half.

Close chances in the opening stages saw Ruiz's attempted chip go straight into opposing goalkeeper Jamie Cumming's hands whilst Carlos Perez's shot took a wicked deflection before landing on top of the crossbar.

'Los Cules' would break the deadlock in the 31st minute thanks to some stunning build-up play by Ruiz. The winger won the ball out on the left wing, charging at goal before putting it on a plate for Marques to head into an empty goal.

Cumming would be forced into a fine save shortly after, getting down low to deny a shot from left-back Juan Miranda to ensure Chelsea only went into the break a goal down.

However, that deficit would be doubled just after the interval. Marques scoring his second of the game after winning the ball from defender Marc Guehi on the edge of the box, finishing off the move by slotting it past Cumming to make it 2-0.

The second-half goal sparked the 'Blues into life, who would miss a host of close chances to bring the game back on more equal footing.

A free-kick from Callum Hudson-Odoi struck the post whilst Charlie Brown also saw his header crash on top of the woodwork.

The missed opportunities would eventually come back to haunt Chelsea as Barcelona made it 3-0 right at the death. Ruiz secured the youth trophy by hitting a venomous strike across goal to nestle into the bottom left corner.
