News today broke that a referee had been asked by senior officials within the Spanish Football Association to give key decisions towards Real Madrid if he wished to 'further his professional career’.
Barcelona officials have been reported by Spanish papers asking for proper sanctions if the allegations are found true, and that the Spanish FA suffers the consequences for having to have tried to manipulate the league.
Right now Barcelona feels that everything is going against them: the sanction by FIFA that means they are unable to sign more players until January, the way many of their players are being prosecuted by the Spanish Treasury for tax evasion, the fine given to them by UEFA for displaying Catalan flags in their recent Champions League match against Bayer Leverkusen, and now this match-fixing scandal.
Any club would be tired of sanction after sanction, and it does seem that everything that could go against Barcelona has done this season. At least they are still sitting top of La Liga.
