Last years quarter-finalists Barcelona eased past Glasgow City on Wednesday, beating the Scots 5-0, and effectively ending their UEFA Women's Champions League (UWCL) hopes for another year within the first leg of their round of 16 tie.
Scottish champions Glasgow City headed to the Mini Estadi on Thursday hoping to make history, as they went with the intention of putting in a strong away performance, in the first leg of their round of 16 tie with Barcelona Femeni.
However the subsequent fixture seemed not to have read the Scottish script; Barcelona completely thrashed Glasgow City by five goals to nil, effectively ending the tie with 90 minutes still left to play.
First half efforts from Kheira Hamraoui , Aitana Bonmati and Patricia Guijarro saw the Catalans cruise into the interval with a commanding lead. Then, as if Glasgow City did not have enough of a mountain to climb, Andressa Alves and Maria Leon added two more to the tally, to make the score 5-0.
