Barcelona officially revealed their new away shirt for the 2019/20 season this Monday. The kit is a tribute to Barcelona's La Masia academy and resembles a similar outfit they wore some 40 years ago.
Yellow is back at the Camp Nou. Eleven years after the Barcelona away shirt that paid tribute to the one used during Diego Maradona's era at the club, the Spanish champions will once again wear a non-fluorescent yellow top during the 2019-20 season.
Images of the shirt had already been leaked, but the club officially confirmed the new kit on Monday morning, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of La Masia. "In homage to La Masia's 40th anniversary", read the headline on the club website.
The club describes the shirt as an "iconic football classic" as it appears alongside photos of the 1979 team wearing a similar strip.
The new shirt, which is yellow in colour with a blue and a red diagonal stripe on the front, has received mainly positive feedback from fans of the club so far. It's worth remembering that, in 2008/09, Barça wore a similar away shirt, paying tribute on that occasion to the team that included Maradona in the 1980s.
