Barcelona will look to reaffirm their grip on Spanish domestic football as they take on Sevilla in the Supercopa on Sunday.

While many Barcelona fans have bemoaned the European success that their huge rivals Real Madrid have enjoyed over the last 5 seasons, winning 4 Champions Leagues in that time.

Even though 'Los Blancos' have been the undisputed kings of Europe for such a long time, Barcelona have been utterly dominant in the Spanish league and cup, failing to win the domestic double only once since 2014.

Despite this impressive form, the Catalan giants have been less successful in the Supercopa in that time, losing their last 3 opportunities to clinch the trophy to Atheltic Bilbao, Sevilla and Real Madrid.

The importance of this fixture was highlighted when Ernesto Valverde expressed his disappointment at the game being classified as a competitive fixture by the Spanish FA, and as a result all of Barça's stars including Lionel Messi will be avaliable for selection.

Sevilla are also going in to the game as fully committed as possible, with their new manager Pablo Machin looking to get his first silverware with the Andalusians in Tangiers.

"On Sunday we'll play a final we've won the right to be at and we have to give it the importance it has." the coach said.

"We will not reach 100 per cent. Being a team with a different way of playing we need some time, but the team is assimilating well and they are good and intelligent footballers."
