There was more controversy in Barcelona's defeat against Inter Milan. In the 90th minute, the referee did not give a penalty for what seemed a clear handball by Denzel Dumfries. The VAR checked it, but did not recommend a review.

Barcelona have reasons to complain about the refereeing at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium. After Pedri's goal was disallowed for a handball by Ansu Fati, the referee decided not to give a penalty for an alleged handball by Dumfries in the area.

It was a cross which went into the area and Ansu Fati was going to head in had it not been for Dumfries' arm which the ball seemed to strike. That led to Fati being unable to head home.

Dembele was one of those to appeal the loudest for a spot kick. The match was stopped for a long VAR check while Barca's players assumed that it would be given, but it was not.

The referee ordered play on with a corner and that was the latest controversial incident in an encounter full of tension given what was at stake in the Champions League. Xavi was furious after the game, like many Barca supporters were.
