Reports in Spain claim that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has moved ahead of Kylian Mbappe as Real Madrid's first choice striking target.

Spanish publication 'OK Diario' reports that the Gabonese has once again returned to the top of Real boss Zinedine Zidane's wishlist.

The Frenchman admitted earlier this week that his side were a striker short following the sale of Alvaro Morata to Chelsea, but until now, all signs had pointed towards a move for Monaco's Kylian Mbappe.

Today's news that Mbappe is in talks with Monaco over a new contract appears to have forced Real into considering alternatives, with Aubameyang the next name on their list.

Despite this, there is no guarantee that Aubameyang would be any easier to sign, with the German club having made it clear some time ago that the player is not for sale.

The 28-year-old has established himself as one of the best strikers in world football since joining Dortmund from French side Saint-Etienne in 2013 and scored 40 goals in 46 games for the Germans last season, including 31 in 32 Bundesliga games to edge ahead of Robert Lewandowski in the race for the Golden Boot.

Could we be set for a new transfer saga?
