Stephan Lichtsteiner will be available as a free agent in the summer, and The Gunners are hoping to pounce and sign the Juventus defender.

Arsenal announced the appointment of former PSG boss Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger's replacement on Wednesday, and the Spaniard has wasted little time in designating his transfer targets.

Lichtsteiner joined the Serie A champions from Lazio in 2011, and has won the Italian league with Juventus every season that he has played collecting seven winners' medals.

Earlier in the month, the defender had been clear that his future lay elsewhere. He told 'Mediaset': ''I'm playing in one of the biggests clubs in Europe and there's always competition for places.''

He was adamant: ''But my future is going to be away from Turin. At the end of the season I'm leaving. I'll play abroad next year but I've not signed anything yet.'' It could spell good news for Arsenal's recruitment team.
