Antonio Rudiger's good work against Erling Haaland may have made him a starter for Ancelotti. This leaves only two spots for Eder Militao, David Alaba and Eduardo Camavinga, however, the latter's injury could tip the scales in favour of the former two. The latest tests rule out a serious injury to the Frenchman, who will be at the Etihad.

Real Madrid are already thinking about the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium next Wednesday. The first leg gave Ancelotti a few options to reflect on.

One of them is to use Antonio Rudiger again in the centre of defence. The German took the place of the suspended Eder Militao, so initially he would have to return to the bench. However, a good performance at the Bernabeu to stop Haaland might have earned him a place in the starting eleven for the second leg.

That leaves two positions for three players in defence, with Carvajal at right-back. The left-back and Rüdiger's partner are yet to be decided.

Camavinga had the edge ... until Saturday

Eduardo Camavinga was the man most likely to start at the Etihad. His strong performances at full-back, coupled with his versatility to play in midfield later in the game, made him very useful to Ancelotti.

However, the injury he picked up earlier on Saturday against Getafe, with a sprained knee, may mean that Ancelotti will not start him.

Ancelotti could therefore opt for a defence comprising of Dani Carvajal, Éder Militao, Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba, provided Camavinga does not arrive fit.

The latest tests have ruled out problems for Eduardo Camavinga, who will be at the Etihad. It remains to be seen whether he starts or comes on as a substitute.
