Real Madrid have officially presented Alvaro Carreras as their fourth summer signing, with the Spanish full-back joining from Benfica for €50 million and describing his return as “the happiest day of my life”.

Real Madrid unveiled Spanish full-back Alvaro Carreras on Tuesday as their fourth signing of the summer transfer window. During his presentation, Carreras made no secret of his excitement at wearing the Madrid shirt again: "Returning to Madrid means everything".

In his first statements, he explained that he remained focused on Benfica until the end of the season: "I was completely focused on Benfica for the Club World Cup. I am eternally grateful to Benfica".

Carreras underlined that he is not influenced by his high transfer fee: "I don't base it on my price. I am completely sure of what I am and what I can give. The full-back relived his excitement at the signing, saying: "Until the last moment I didn't believe I was coming here.

As for his role models, he mentioned two legends: "I could say that Roberto Carlos and Marcelo were my inspiration". He also had words of affection for Angel Di María, whom he considered a model as a team-mate and professional.

To close his speech, Carreras expressed his desire to succeed with the club: "I'm looking forward to defending this shirt, this crest, the best club in the world. Thank you very much and ¡hala Madrid!"
