Allardyce: I wanted N'Zonzi to play for England

New England manager Sam Allardyce revealed that he enquired about calling up Sevilla midfielder Steven N'Zonzi to his squad, but the Frenchman is ineligible.

N'Zonzi played in England for six years for Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City, and it was Allardyce who brought the player to England from Amiens, but is not eligible for the Three Lions as he has represented France at U-21 level.

With regards to N'Zonzi pssibly being elibible for England, Allardyce said: "We did have a call, and it would have been of interest for me.

"We did explore it, but it was impossible, and it’s dead now".

The 27-year-old has been at Sevilla for just over a year where he has played times and scored one goal.

He also won the Europa League last season.
