Mateu Alemany has done a 180. Barcelona's sporting director has reportedly told Laporta that he wants to stay at the club, despite announcing his farewell several weeks ago.
FC Barcelona's sporting director Mateu Alemany, met on Wednesday with the president of the Catalan club, Joan Laporta, to tell him of his desire to continue at the head of the sporting project next season, as 'EFE' has learned from sources at the Catalan club.
Alemany had accepted a very important financial offer from a Premier League team (Aston Villa), which is why he had decided to leave Barca this summer, with whom he had a contract until 30th June 2024.
Laporta left the door of the club open to him if he changed his mind, something that has happened on Wednesday. Alemany has explained to the president that he feels the sporting project of the Catalan team as his own, which is why he has proposed to him to continue in the position.
He would also continue with the same economic conditions as his current contract, despite the huge offer he has on the table to move to England.
Alemany's change of heart comes a day after the club announced that sporting director Jordi Cruyff had decided to leave Barca to start a new career, probably on the bench.
