Ajax are reluctant to let defender Davinson Sanchez leave this summer, despite interest from Tottenham.

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen to add to his squad this summer and is on the look-out for a new defender to keep the likes of Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen on their toes and allow Austrian Kevin Wimmer to move on to pasture new.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for 21-year-old Sanchez, who impressed in Ajax's Europe League final defeat to Manchester United in May.

The player was left out of his side's Eredivisie opener on Saturday due to a 'lack of focus', but it is understood that reports that a deal is close are exaggerated.

The Colombian defender made 43 appearances for the Dutch giants in all competitions last seaosn, scoring six times and as a talented young player, he fits the Spurs' profile perfectly.

However, the player's current employers are reluctant to see him leave this summer.

An Ajax spokesperson has reportedly told 'Sky Sports News': "Last year Sanchez signed a five-year contract and we don't want to let him go.

"That's what (sporting director) Marc Overmars has told the player and his agents. He is a great player who is very important for us. Next to that, we never comment on rumours regarding transfers."

Will Sanchez be one of the players to come in and "refresh and add energy and competition" to the Spurs squad?
