In the Morocco versus Canada game, Nayef Aguerd scored the 100th goal at the Qatar World Cup. The defender scored an own goal to reduce the deficit right on half-time. The tournament has seen an average of 2.38 goals per game so far.

There had been 97 goals going into Thursday. Hakim Ziyech and Sevilla's Youssef En-Nesyri made it 2-0 to Morocco in the first half. Canada then reduced the deficit right on half-time to bring up the 100th. West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd scored an own goal for Canada.

There have now been 100 goals in 42 matches, an average of 2.38 goals per match, lower than the last two World Cups. 

Since France 98 when the World Cup expanded to 32 teams (64 matches), only the 2006 World Cup in Germany and the 2010 one in South Africa have had less goals on average than the current one in Qatar.
