Real Madrid seem decided on getting Martin Odegaard back, but as 'ABC' note, his return in the summer or completing the 2nd year of his loan at Real Sociedad depends on one factor: Luka Modric's exit or not.

'Mundo Deportivo' assure that Luka Modric will be free to leave in the summer if he wishes. Although his contract was extended until June 2021, Real Madrid will not put any hindrance to his exit amidst his fall to 2nd fiddle.

It is the direct consequence of Fede Valverde bursting on to the scene, the result of the logical generational change that Los Blancos are experiencing. Something that could become even more evident in the summer, when players such as Achraf, maybe even Reguilón... or Martin Odegaard are due to return.

It so happens that the case of the Norwegian is very particular. Madrid have an agreement with Real Sociedad for him to stay two seasons in Anoeta, but in the summer the parties will have to sit down to talk and decide what happens since Madrid seemed determined to get him back.

In this sense, 'ABC' said on Thursday that Odegaard's return to the Bernabéu will be linked to what happens to the aforementioned Luka Modric, as the powerful Norwegian midfielder would find himself with an overbooking in the Madrid midfield.

At the end of the day, Odegaard doesn't want to go to Madrid to be a sub. The aforementioned source explains that if that is the scenario, he would prefer to complete his 2nd season loan at a Real Sociedad where he has excelled in La Liga.

At 34 years old, if the Croat decides to stay at Real Madrid and see out his contract, the club will not put any hindrance, but nor if he goes. In the MLS, David Beckham is already tempting the Croat to sign for his Inter Miami, which would make things easier.
