A tale of two England strikers

In November 2014, Saido Berahino was called up to the England squad after a run of seven goals in 10 games, meanwhile Harry Kane was yet to start his first league game for Tottenham. A lot has changed since then...

Saido Berahino, now at Stoke, has gone 582 days without scoring a goal.

The numbers don't look good for the 24-year-old striker: 1,908 minutes, 582 days, 38 shots, 30 Premier League games and 4 missed penalties.

He had the perfect chance to end his goal drought on Saturday against Southampton but saw his effort kept out by goalkeeper Fraser Forster.

Since Berahino last scored a goal, Kane has netted an impressive 44 times as the two England strikers have experienced contrasting fortunes.

In the same week that Berahino was called up to the England squad, Kane scored the winning goal for Tottenham against Aston Villa, but was yet to start a Premier League game and he wasn't even on the radar of England manager at the time, Roy Hodgson.

The two players could have also been team-mates at Tottenham, had Baggies chairman Jeremy Peace not rejected four bids for Berahino in the summer of 2015.

Since then, however, the tables have turned. Kane has won two consecutive Premier League golden boots and become a regular starter, and scorer, for club and country, while Berahino has made the move to Stoke City in January 2017, and is yet to find the back of the net for the Potters.
