Bit by bit we are finding out more about the ins and outs of the tragic attacks in Brussels. Khalid El Bakraoui, one of the terrorists at the Maelbeek metro station, had used the identity of an ex-Inter player.
He had done it to hire a house in the city of Charleroi, which they used as an operations centre, according to 'SKy TG24'
The terrorist was able to pass for Ibrahim Maaroufi, a player who is still playing at Schaerbeek. But Maaroufi was a player at the italian club Inter and, Mancini,the manager at the time, gave him his first-team debut in 2006.
'La Gazzetta dello Sport' affirms that Mancini believed, when Maaroufi was then 17, that he was a great midfielder. The player was born in Morocco but became a Belgian national, and ended up featuring for both countries youth sides.
According to various sources, El Bakraoui flew from Brussels to Treviso (Italy) last year and then to Athens (Greece). It was there that he was reuinted with Salah Abdeslam, the mastermind of the Paris attacks in November.
