7 most terrible mistakes by referees in the Champions League
For many, it is the best football competition in the world, but it is swarming with controversy due to errors from referees, which occur season after season.
Schalke 04 v Basil
It seems impossible for the linesman not to see up to four Schalke players in an offside position. The Basil defence played the offside trap well, but the goal was given. The Swiss team's coach, Murat Yakin, could not believe his eyes. His reaction says it all.
Barcelona v Chelsea
The Blues claimed up to five penalties which were all waved away by referee Obrevo. Barcelona won the game in the final stages and went through to the final for Guardiola to win his first Champions League.

Real Madrid lifted the Champions League trophy for the eleventh time in Milan, but it was achieved in controversial fashion. Zidane's team triumphed in the penalty shoot-out, but had taken the lead in the first 90 minutes through a Ramos goal, which should have been blown offside.
Barcelona v PSG
Deniz Aytekin was heavily criticised in this fixture. He did not see a penalty from Mascherano on Di Maria, which would have meant the defender's dismissal, and he did award the home side a spot-kick for a non-existent foul from Marquinhos on Suarez.
Real Madrid v Bayern Munich
The last performance from a referee to be dressed down. Kassai did not have a good match, piling up mistake after mistake: First he did not send Vidal off, only for then to show him the red card for a foul where he had got the ball. He also took pity on Casemiro and did not show him a second booking. His linesmen did not help him, with the 1-2, 2-2 and 3-2 goals all scored in offside positions.
