The most relevant tournament in football returns this year and it is almost time for the tournament in Qatar: matches, dates and possible match-ups in the knockout stages.
The World Cup in Qatar will be the 22nd edition of the biggest tournament in the history of football. In addition, it is the first one to be played in the Northern Hemisphere's Winter because of Qatar's climate. After plenty of controversy for political reasons and the death of many migrant workers building the stadia, the tournament is about to begin. As we said earlier, the 2022 World Cup is more than special because it is the first time the tournament will be played at the end of the year. The World Cup will begin on 20th Novermber and end on 18th December. These dates mean that domestic competitions have had to be halted for a month and other games such as the Champions League and the Nations League were brought forward.
As for the squad lists for the tournament, FIFA have set a deadline of 14th November, in other words, six days before the opening game between Qatar and Ecuador. In this period of time, it still remains to be seen which players will finally miss the matches and which will be used by the national team coaches for the matches. Russia, the hosts of the last World Cup, will not take part in the competition due to the conflict with Ukraine.
