18 years since Torres' debut
On May 27th 2001, Fernando Torres played for the first time in an official match with Atlético Madrid. 18 years on and Torres has come a long way, writing footballing history across the world.
Fernando Torres bid farewell with goals in his last match, at the new stadium, in front of loving fans and in a sea of tears. That was before he left for Asian football and not too long after his Atletico debut.
On the 27th May 2001, about to turn 18, Torres made his debut with Atletico Madrid. They were in the Second Division fighting to return to the First Division and it was in a match against Leganés when the young promise appeared.
Little by little, he earned a place both in the starting eleven and in the fans' hearts who have always recognized his commitment even after he left.
