One of those heartbreaking stories. Bruno Cañete has sadly passed away after being hit in the stomach by the ball.
The young Sport Colombia goalkeeper sadly passed away on Friday after he was hit in the stomach by the ball, causing a cardiac arrest.
The stopper received a powerful blow just below the thorax, after a shot from an opposition player. Cañete then collapsed to the floor. Various people associated with the team rushed to his aid but unfortunately they could not save him.
The youngster did not respond to the lifesaving techniques that were applied and lost his life on the pitch, in front of his stunned team-mates. Players from both sides were seen dropping to their knees to pray for Cañete before his passing.
The news has had a big impact, especially because the pitch in question had no doctor present or first aid provisions. Cañete's father has said that he hopes this changes in the future in light of the tragic event.
"Remeber my son, and make sure there is an ambulance present at every pitch, please" pleaded Christian Cañete.
Everyone here at BeSoccer sends their sincerest condolonces to all of Bruno's friends and family. Rest in peace, Bruno.
