More than 1,300 signings have taken place in Europe's top five leagues over the summer and, with the exorbitant fees around, here are the 16 best when it comes to value.

Over £3.4bn have been spent in England, Spain, Germany, Italy and France. A big chunk of that pertains to Neymar's record-breaking transfer to Paris Saint-Germain for £198 million, but the Brazilian has not been the only one at the heart of a big-money transfer.

Dembele to Barcelona, Lukaku to Manchester United, Morata to Chelsea or AC Milan's summer spending spree have been the headlines. However, the Guardian had a look at the more modest deals which went under the radar and have the potential to eventually prove more cost-effective. Only time will tell...

Here are the 16 great signing that have taken place in the midst of the inflation of the transfer window:

Leonardo Bonucci, from Juventus to Milan for £35.2m

Youri Tielemans, Anderlecht to Monaco for £21.6m

Dani Ceballos, Real Betis to Real Madrid for £14.5m

Cengiz Under, Basaksehir to Roma for £11.7m

Terence Kongolo, Feyenoord to Monaco for £11.4m

Marco Benassi, Torino to Fiorentina for £9m

Bertrand Traoré, Chelsea to Lyon for £8.8m

Andy Robertson, Hull City to Liverpool for £8m

Valère Germain, Monaco to Marseille for £7m

Ryad Boudebouz, Montpellier to Real Betis for £6.3m

Kyriakos Papadopoulos, Bayer Leverkusen to Hamburg for £5.8m

Sandro Ramírez, Málaga to Everton for £5.3m

Sead Kolasinac, Schalke to Arsenal on a free

Dani Alves, Juventus to Paris Saint-Germain on a free

Sebastian Rudy, Hoffenheim to Bayern on a free

Dan-Axel Zagadou, Paris Saint-Germain to Borussia Dortmund for a tribunal fee
