Former Rangers player Ally McCoist thinks that Joao Felix was not the player Chelsea needed to change things this season. He said that he could not understand how Chelsea paid 10 million pounds to get him on loan from Atletico Madrid until June.
Joao Felix made his Chelsea debut and he got sent off. The player saw a red card for a bad tackle and he will miss the next three matches.
Ex-footballer Ally McCoist, a pundit for 'TalkSport', still cannot believe why the Blues paid so much money for the Atletico Madrid man.
"Firstly, I’ve got to say I can’t believe we’re paying £10m for a loan now. Absolute madness," he said.
As well as the loan fee, the West Londoners have to pay the player's wages. That comes to around eight million pounds. Given the cost of loan fee, Joao Felix's suspension means Chelsea have wasted more than two million pounds on the 23 year-old Portuguese.
For McCoist, his signing was a mistake and not because he questions his quality. "I like Joao Felix, I don’t think he’s the answer to Chelsea’s problems," he added.
The 60 year-old Scot believes that Chelsea should have gone for a different type of player: "They need a centre forward, plus I don’t think he’s consistent enough. I watched him closely at the World Cup and I thought he did some brilliant things."
