Since his return to the Real Madrid managerial role, Zinedine Zidane has not been able to fully appreciate Vinicius' quality in person, the man of the moment at the Bernabeu.
All eyes were on him, the ball was at his feet, everyone was looking his way on the pitch, all the goalscoring responsibility rested on his young shoulders ... until he got injured.
He suffered the injury on the night of Madrid's tragic Champions League exit at the hands of a gutsy Ajax, something which the Bernabeu hadn't witnessed for a number of years.
But Zidane was swiftly called in and with him, the hopes of the fans and the players are back to focus on silverware for next season, across all competitions.
Vinicius' injury coincides with that of Lucas Vasquez, Carvajal and Llorente, as well as the outcasting of Isco, Marcelo and Mariano, and poor form from Kroos, Bale, Casemiro and Asensio. A very different Real to the one Zidane left last summer.
So, the Frenchman's first task is to lift the team spirit, rebuild lost confidence, and help those injured to recover as quickly as possible - especially Vinicius Jr.
It remains to be seen what role the youngster will have under Zidane, a Vinicius who has shown to have sufficient quality to compete in the first team, despite still lacking goalscoring form.
